Non Violent Resistance
NON VIOLENT RESISTANCE
“The goal and purpose of NVR is to be the guiding light in the storm”
NVR is a parenting style that is underpinned by the knowledge of issues relating to complex developmental trauma and attachment. By focusing on these elements it can provide significant change for families as part of Post Adoption Support. We also have adapted this model to support Kinship Carers. It is successful in helping families where neurodivergence is part of the children’s presentation.

Building strong connective relationships
NVR is gentle, relational and loving. By improving and building strong connective relationships within your family you can raise your parental presence and find strategies to manage conflict and child to parent violence.
The adults are central to this work. It is both an empowering and effective way to make changes within your whole family.
We focus on building a strong relationship between parents and children and the extended family.
We seek to support you in looking at your own need to be well on all levels and to have the space and energy to continue to show you love your child through times of conflict.
Within NVR there are different elements that work together like a jigsaw puzzle. The NVR Map illustrates these elements and we work on a different part each week, with time to review and share your experiences.

We also add in our own knowledge of identity relating to your child’s story, trauma, attachment, and neurodivergence.
Testimonials and feedback from families
We asked the families that attend these sessions to give us one word to describe their experience of attending the group and these were their responses:
“For parents to become anchors for their children they must firmly attach themselves to their parental ground” Haim Omer, Courageous Parents 2021
NVR can be used with children with any age, including adult children. We consider the sibling relationships and how NVR can support them too.
We offer a variety of practical strategies – we are creative and flexible. We have the opportunity to explore and find solutions together.
